New Year’s is one of my favorite times of the year: the end of one year and the start of the next! A moment of transition and refreshing momentum. The subtle shift of that last numerical unit on every single date I write and see.
Anyways, a lot has happened in the past year for me. I’m officially a published author now, approaching one year since I first put I, the One on Smashwords. How long ago that feels!
What a ride it’s been since then. I got involved with a movement called PulpRev soon after, drawn in by the enthusiasm of bloggers and like-minded writers who were interested and looking at similar fiction that I was studying at the time such as Edgar Rice Burroughs. That took off and I’ve met so many wonderful people through that decision to get involved.
But it didn’t stop there.
After I released the kindle version of I, the One and it was shared and reviewed through blogs, a SFF short story of mine was accepted into Cirsova magazine which will be coming out this spring and you can subscribe via the Kickstarter for as low as 1$ to receive both that issue and the next! My story is also featured on the cover, which is so awesome.
Then I published Reptilian Wanderer, a story I’d been developing for the past 4 years or so. I learned a great deal from the publishing process. The stellar reception from its readers was humbling. Reptilian Wanderer is a story that personally means a lot to me and is very near to my heart, so to have people who felt resonance with it… that was amazing.
I was a guest on two podcasts this year, one before Reptilian Wanderer was published and one after. I’m not naturally the type to hop on audio (or video), but it’s something that I was determined to do to get out of my comfort zone.
Then about three weeks ago, I released the follow-up short story, We, the Two, and now we’re here.
I’ve learned a great deal over the year. Where I am now compared to where I was last year is worlds apart. I would have never predicted it. This makes me excited as I have absolutely no idea where I’m going to be this time NEXT year!
To honor some of what has helped me along my way, I’ve established a new page on my site called Resources for Writers where I share affiliate links of ebooks that have helped me and could help other writers.
For my supporters and readers out there, thank you and Happy New Year!
