Well, for one, they follow you everywhere.

For two, they do all your laundry, dishes, and generally pick up after you.

For three, well, your every wish is their command … if you’re into that sort of thing.

Sure, that doesn’t seem bad, but now that he’s saved one, this intern turned catgirl savior has a choice. Northern California beckons the Mystic Caravan crew and they’re looking forward to some down time after their previous stop. Emotions are running high and the workers are desperate to return to their normal lives.
Poet Parker and Kade Denton, for instance, have a new camper to move into and they’re both excited at the prospect of an adventure that has nothing to do with monsters. All that changes on their first night in a new camp when wendigo howls fill the air and trouble comes knocking at their metaphorical door.
One wendigo is nothing to worry about but when ghosts start calling every night, only maintaining a distance because of the dreamcatcher, things take a turn for the worse. That’s when the ghosts start invading Poet’s dreams, leaving her on the precipice of death without outside intervention.
All roads lead to a place called Falk, a forgotten logging town that died during the Great Depression. It seems the town is long gone but a bevy of ghosts remain, as does a secret so terrible that the entire foundation of the Mystic Caravan world is about to be rocked.
A fight is coming, and both sides are readying for battle. For Poet, things aren’t as easy as they seem, though.
What happens when the monster you think you’re fighting isn’t a monster at all and the so-called victims are the ones who need to be taken down?

Leveling up and maximizing my skill trees, enemies cower and my ladies want me even in the heat of battle.

Good thing getting down with them unlocks my powers in ways previously incomprehensible, or we might never have stood a chance.

Contains Adult Content. Seriously. A lot.

We have a job to do, and considering that we’re going after the pyramids where the villains have been stealing superpowers and storing them, we’re going to need our wits about us. I wish someone had been able to warn me what I might find in those pyramids, or that I might end up trapped within, having to take control while risking my sanity and ability to ever live a normal life again.

There’s also rumor of the Blue Lady being involved in this next mission. I haven’t decided if that’s a good thing or not, considering the fact that we met her as a revenge-crazed criminal aboard the prison ship. But hey, if she’ll help us infiltrate the pyramids and take down Ranger, who am I to argue?

It’s all in the line of duty.

WARNING: This book contains naughty fun in hot springs, a harem, a sort of dungeon core with insanities galore, and a super attractive lady with blue skin. If you’re looking for some crazy action and to get some blood flowing to your crotch, this is the book for you. If that scares you, be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

And that’s where the SF&F “Trending Now” (Kobo’s version of Best Seller) cuts off.

Kobo has major issues when it comes to effectively promoting indie books in an engaging manner. TradPub has a distinct leg-up on that platform with the way the lists are geared though it also might be due to the demographic of readers that use Kobo versus the wider range of people who are drawn to Amazon.

Amazon has spent a lot of time engineering Kindle to engage readers… I don’t think Kobo has had the same amount of resources or direction to accomplish the same and it definitely shows in things like the review/rating numbers.

Amazon’s Best Sellers change daily, sometimes multiple times in a day.

It could have changed even as I put together this post….

I don’t know if Kobo has the same impact… from just these findings, I doubt it.

However, indie Science Fiction & Fantasy books are on Kobo (for instance Jonathan Moeller has a strong presence there and his older books are some of the most frequently rated/reviewed indie books in that category).

There’s a big problem that Kobo doesn’t have actual author pages though. When you click on an author name, it just puts in a search function. This limits the ability to share a collection well with a short url: instead it has to be shared like this.

The list descends into unrelated offerings due to the search functionality rather than focusing on the author. Yes, there are filters, but it’s asking too much from a reader who might just be browsing and wanting to enjoy the process of browsing rather than having to specifically work to find something.

I know that as a reader, I enjoy browsing and that’s a process Amazon has successfully created in the digital sphere with Kindle.

Anyway, writer or reader: what do you think about these findings? Any patterns stand out? Notice the differences between Amazon blurbs and Kobo blurbs? Would you give Kobo a try as a reader or author? Did any of these books surprise you? Did I miss something?

Did anything interest you enough to check it out?
